WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC APHERESIS?

Therapeutic Apheresis (TA) is a technique to circulate a patient's blood through a device to remove or treat a portion of the blood and return the remaining elements to the

patient. There are several types of TA procedures:

 

  • Therapeutic Plasma Exchange

  • Cytapheresis 

  • Lipoprotein apheresis

  • Extracorporeal photopheresis

WHO CAN RECEIVE TREATMENTS?

Therapeutic apheresis treats 180+ medical conditions. The chronic medical conditions include Myasthenia Gravis, Long COVID, PANDAS, Alzheimer’s Disease, Autoimmune Dysautonomia, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Toxin/Venom Removal, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, and many more.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

Therapeutic apheresis procedures take about 2 to 4 hours. A needle is put into a vein in each arm as an access point. Specialized central venous catheters can be used as well.
